Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed that Helldivers 2 is experimenting with a rogue‑lite mode. The news came directly from creative director Johan Pilestedt, who responded to a fan’s query on X (formerly Twitter).

The fan had asked whether the team was considering a roguelike or endless mode, where players could face continuous waves of enemies while completing objectives on the same map. Pilestedt replied that a prototype already exists and added that it “will change the game fundamentally.” No further details were shared afterward.

At this stage, there’s no timeline for when the mode might release or what its final form will look like. The developers have only acknowledged that the prototype is in place, leaving fans curious about how it could expand the game’s already chaotic co‑op experience.

This update follows Arrowhead’s recent technical improvements, including a major reduction in the PC file size—cut down by 85% (from 154GB to 23GB).

Pilestedt has also been active in sharing development updates. In one recent post, he shared a photo of four directors discussing the next four arcs of Helldivers 2. When asked if those arcs would take three years to arrive, he clarified that updates would come “a bit more often than that,” noting the team is now “in a better technical space.”

Outside of the game, Helldivers is expanding into other media. A film adaptation is in the works, with a director from the Fast & Furious franchise and the writer of IT attached to the project.
