Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally out in the wild — and fans wasted no time diving in. Within just hours of launch on September 4, the long‑awaited sequel rocketed past 500,000 concurrent players on Steam, cementing itself as one of the biggest PC releases of the year.
The hype was so intense that when the clock struck 10 AM EST, multiple storefronts, Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo’s eShop, all saw slowdowns or brief outages as players rushed to grab their copy.
Even with those hiccups, the numbers climbed fast — Steam’s peak hit over 535,000, shattering the original Hollow Knight’s all‑time high of around 73,000 (via SteamDB).
The momentum had been building for weeks (or, as some might say, years). Back in August, when Team Cherry finally dropped the release date after years of silence, fans flocked back to the first game. Player counts for Hollow Knight surged, peaking at more than 71,000 just days before Silksong’s debut.
And remember — these stats are just for Steam. With Silksong also launching on Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation, the real "total player" count is likely far higher.
In the 2025 CCU charts, Silksong now sits in second place for new releases. Monster Hunter Wilds still holds the crown with a staggering 1.3 million peak back in February, but Silksong edges out indie hit Schedule I’s 459,000 peak.
With the weekend rush still ahead, it wouldn’t be surprising if those numbers climb even higher. For now, Hornet’s adventure in Pharloom has already made history — and it’s only just getting started.
