Hollow Knight has been on a record-breaking spree ever since Silksong’s long-awaited release date was announced at Gamescom on August 21, 2025.
What started as a modest spike in concurrent players has snowballed into a daily climb, culminating in a new all-time peak of over 71,000 concurrent players on Steam as of September 1.
Before this surge, the all-time peak sat at around 20,000 concurrent players back in May 2022. That record didn’t just get broken — it got obliterated, and then broken again almost every single day.
Here’s how the numbers stacked up after the announcement (via SteamDB):
Aug 21 – 16,000 peak (date announcement)
Aug 22 – 23,000 (new all-time high at the time)
Aug 23 – 33,000
Aug 24 – 39,000
Aug 26 – 45,000
Aug 27 – 50,000
Aug 28 – 52,000
Aug 29 – 56,000
Aug 30 – 66,000
Aug 31 – 70,000
Sept 1 – 71,000 (current record)

These figures only cover Steam players — and since Hollow Knight is also on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox, the real total across all platforms is likely much higher.
The hype isn’t just in active play sessions. Following the Silksong announcement, nearly five million players have added the sequel to their Steam wishlists, as reported by Alinea Analytics. That’s a staggering show of anticipation for a game that’s been in development for seven years.
Now, all eyes are on Silksong, which is set to launch on September 4, 2025 [all regional timing is here].
