KRAFTON Officially Postpones BGMI Franchise League, Hints at Future Return

KRAFTON India has officially confirmed that the much-anticipated BGMI Franchise League will not be moving forward this year. The announcement follows weeks of speculation in the Indian esports community, where rumors about the league’s cancellation had been circulating since last week.

The BGMI Franchise League was envisioned as an IPL-style model for competitive Battlegrounds Mobile India, aimed at providing a stable, long-term structure for teams and players. KRAFTON had been in talks with potential franchise partners since June, generating significant buzz in the scene. However, according to the company, "the timing is not right to move forward with the BGMI Franchise League at this time."

In the statement, KRAFTON acknowledged that "the idea received strong interest" from stakeholders, but the "current environment" does not support "the scale and impact originally envisioned."

The publisher stressed that its "commitment to Indian esports remains unwavering," and it will continue focusing on initiatives that foster talent, engage the community, and strengthen the competitive ecosystem.

Importantly, the company clarified that the franchise model "remains a part of our long-term vision" and could be revisited when conditions improve. Until then, BGMI esports will continue through established tournaments like the BGMI India Series (BGIS) and BGMI Pro Series (BMPS).

Meanwhile, there’s already chatter in the community about a potential replacement event in late September. Some believe it might be a "Showdown" tournament after BGMS Season 4 wraps up on September 14. However, with no official confirmation, such talk remains speculative.

While this decision may feel like a setback, it also shows that KRAFTON is playing the long game — waiting for the right moment to introduce a franchise model that truly delivers on its promise.
