Marvel fans will have to wait a little longer for their next big adventure.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the World War II action game from Skydance, has officially been delayed.
Originally set for a 2025 launch, the game will now release in early 2026.
According to Skydance, the delay is all about making the game the best it can be:
“Taking this additional time will allow us to add more polish and make sure we give you the best possible experience, and one that lives up to our vision.”
A Unique Take on Marvel’s Iconic Heroes
First revealed in March 2024 during an Unreal Engine showcase at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Marvel 1943 is set in World War II and led by Amy Hennig, the creative mind behind the Uncharted series.
The narrative teams up Captain America and Black Panther—but don’t expect them to be best buds from the start. The game kicks off with real tension between the two, leading to a few clashes before they (presumably) join forces to fight a common enemy.
The adventure takes place in occupied Paris, where Cap and Panther work together to disrupt the Axis war machine. But they’re not alone—players will also step into the boots of Gabriel Jones, a member of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy undercover in Paris.
What’s especially cool is that the game dives into a lesser-explored era of Marvel history. We’re not talking modern Steve Rogers or T’Challa. Here, you’ll play as a young Captain America and Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the Black Panther of that time.
A-List Voice Cast and Cutting-Edge Tech
During the first reveal, the developer also revealed the impressive voice talent behind the game's characters.:
Drew Moerlein voices Steve Rogers/Captain America
Khary Payton brings Azzuri/Black Panther to life
Marque Richardson plays Gabriel Jones
Megalyn Echikunwoke voices Nanali
Joel Johnstone steps in as Howard Stark
The game is also aiming high on the tech side. Built with Unreal Engine 5, it promises next-gen visuals and animations.
Skydance is using MetaHuman Animator to craft ultra-realistic facial expressions, helping characters feel more lifelike and emotionally grounded.
A Packed Marvel Gaming Lineup
Marvel 1943 is not the only Marvel game in development right now. There’s plenty more on the horizon, too.
Arkane Lyon (the team behind Deathloop) is working on a Blade game.
Electronic Arts has separate games in the works for both Iron Man and Black Panther, plus one more unannounced Marvel project.
And don't ask me about Insomniac Games, as they are making Wolverine and Spider-Man 3 as per leaks.
