Marvel Rivals on Switch 2? Devs Say It’s Still Not Happening — Yet

Despite the Nintendo Switch 2 already hosting a wave of AAA and third-party titles, Marvel Rivals is still noticeably absent from the list. And there’s a straightforward reason for it—developer NetEase hasn’t received the Switch 2 development kit yet, making a port of the popular hero shooter impossible for now.

In a recent interview with VideoGamer, Marvel Rivals game director Guangyun Chen confirmed that while the team is interested in bringing the game to Nintendo’s latest handheld, they currently lack the tools to do so. “We are in the process of obtaining the development machine for NS2,” Chen explained. “Once we have it, we will conduct a thorough evaluation and provide a response.”

This essentially puts the idea of a Switch 2 port on hold. Even though the original Nintendo Switch was considered during early testing phases, its hardware didn’t quite make the cut. According to producer Weicong Wu, the previous handheld didn’t “provide a great experience for our gameplay,” which means performance issues were likely too significant to ignore.

The Switch 2, on the other hand, has far more potential. It’s already off to a strong start, having sold over 3.5 million units in its first month. Its more advanced specs place it closer to other current-gen platforms, and considering that Marvel Rivals runs well on the Steam Deck—a device with similar capabilities—it’s reasonable to think a future port could be viable.

However, it’s not just NetEase facing delays. As per various reports, Nintendo has been cautious in distributing Switch 2 Dev Kits, which has contributed to the relatively slow rollout of major third-party games on the platform. Although titles like Cyberpunk 2077 have made the leap, many others are still in the pipeline as studios wait their turn for access.

Chen emphasized that the team remains open to exploring a Switch 2 version once the hardware is in hand. Until then, players will have to wait and see if the fast-paced, comic-inspired shooter eventually finds its way to Nintendo’s powerhouse portable.
