Nintendo Direct June 2026: Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake, Xenoblade Genesis, Fire Emblem, and Everything Announced

Nintendo held its June 2026 Direct on June 9, running for roughly 50 minutes. The event covered the second half of 2026 and beyond for Nintendo Switch 2, closing out a showcase season that already included PlayStation's State of Play, Summer Game Fest, and the Xbox Games Showcase. Nintendo saved some big guns for last, and the Zelda reveal at the end of the show made sure of that.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Is Being Remade

Nintendo confirmed what months of rumors had been pointing toward: a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. The teaser trailer showed a brief cinematic glimpse of Link asleep, with what appears to be the Great Deku Tree narrating the opening of the original game. Voice acting is confirmed, and the art style appears to lean toward a semi-realistic look comparable to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Nintendo did not reveal a specific date beyond 2026, with host Yoshiaki Koizumi stating that more details will be announced in the future.

The 1998 N64 original holds a Metacritic score of 99 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made. It previously received a 3DS remake in 2011. This new version will be exclusive to Switch 2 and arrives ahead of the live-action Zelda film, currently scheduled for cinemas in May 2027.

What Else Was Big at the Direct?

Xenoblade Genesis was revealed as the next mainline entry in the Xenoblade series, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The trailer showed a fantasy-heavy setting, a significant departure from the sci-fi and fantasy blend of the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy. Players appear to start at a school called Lekuos, with large-scale battles, horse riding, and dragon flight all shown as traversal and combat options. A fallen god seeking vengeance appears to be central to the story. No release window beyond 2027 was given.

Before the Xenoblade Genesis reveal, Nintendo confirmed that all three main Xenoblade Chronicles games are getting Switch 2 Editions. All three will run at 4K and 60 frames per second in TV mode, and 1080p and 60 frames per second in handheld mode, with enhanced resolution and frame rates for cutscenes as well. Each game also gets new features. Xenoblade Chronicles gains a high-speed vehicle for traversal and newly voiced Heart-to-Heart conversations. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 adds mercenary squad battles, a new rare Blade, and a new Blade Quest. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gets wave-based defensive battles, a new Hero and Hero Quest, and newly voiced event scenes.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Switch 2 Edition is available digitally today. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Switch 2 Edition arrives digitally on July 30, with a physical release on October 1. Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Switch 2 Edition launches both digitally and physically on December 3.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave got a full gameplay reveal and a release date of September 17, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2. The game centers on the Heroic Games, a competition where the ultimate prize is a wish granted by someone known as the Divine Sovereign. Four main characters were shown: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda, a battle-ready bard. The end of the trailer teased an adult form of Sothis, a returning character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Combat retains the series' classic turn-based structure, with a deadline system challenging players to manage time carefully between battles and social activities. A collector's edition called the Dagdan Collection was also announced, including art cards, a steelbook, a map of the land of Dagda, and an art book.

Rhythm Heaven, Splatoon, and Star Fox

Rhythm Heaven Groove kicks off the second half of 2026 on July 2, releasing on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The game includes over 80 new rhythm games, a single-player magical adventure mode, and multiplayer support for up to four players.

A dedicated Splatoon Raiders Direct is scheduled for June 30, and a special Splatfest in Splatoon 3 celebrating the release runs from July 11 to July 13. A new set of Deep Cut-inspired Joy-Con controllers, with blue accents on the left and yellow on the right, also launches on July 23.

Star Fox, a remake of Star Fox 64, launches June 25, 2026 on Switch 2. The remake expands on the original's level design and story and gives characters new designs. A demo is available now on the Nintendo eShop, covering the tutorial and one of the game's opening stages.

Deltarune Chapter 5 Is Almost Here

Toby Fox's Deltarune Chapter 5 releases June 24, 2026, as a free update for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, Mac, PS4, and PS5. The announcement caught many fans off guard given the historically long gaps between chapters: three years between chapters one and two, and four more years before chapters three and four arrived in 2025. Chapter 5 arrives roughly one year after that. Fox had previously suggested Chapter 5 likely would not land in the first half of the year, but it just about squeaked in before the end of June.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Confirmed

Capcom confirmed Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen during the Direct, bringing both the long-awaited expansion and a Nintendo Switch 2 port on October 9, 2026. The new DLC opens up a snowy region called Norgan not seen in the original game, featuring new enemies including an ice dragon and a creature that summons armies of the dead. The expansion launches simultaneously on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The base Dragon's Dogma 2 will also receive a permanent price reduction starting June 24.

Final Fantasy Resonance: The First HD-2D Final Fantasy

Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy Resonance, described as the first Final Fantasy game built in the HD-2D art style, the same visual approach used in Octopath Traveler. It arrives October 22, 2026 on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

The game is based on the first story arc of the now-defunct mobile game Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, but Square Enix was clear this is not a port or remake. According to the studio, it has been "extensively rebuilt as a full-fledged console-quality RPG experience" with a new turn-based combat system, a new overworld, chocobos, airships, 33 new music tracks, and story elements that never appeared in the original mobile game.

The combat system revolves around equipping Visions to unlock jobs, with both unique Resonance Visions and familiar FF tie-in characters including the Warrior of Light, Terra, Cloud, Zidane, Shantotto, and Y'shtola.
