The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially made a strong start in Japan, with nearly one million units sold in just four days following its release. According to Famitsu, the new console sold 947,931 units between June 5 and June 8, 2025, making it one of the most successful hardware launches in Nintendo’s history.
Globally, the system has already crossed 3.5 million units, marking it as the fastest-selling Nintendo console to date during its launch week.
This impressive debut was also reflected in the software charts. Five out of the top ten bestselling games during the same period were titles launched alongside the Switch 2.
Leading the pack was Mario Kart World, a brand-new installment in Nintendo’s long-running racing series. The game, which was available both as a standalone title and as part of a Switch 2 bundle, sold 782,566 units in Japan alone during its first week. This makes it the best-performing title of the week by a wide margin.
Several other titles also saw notable success. Dragon Country: Rune Factory performed well in both its standard Switch and enhanced Switch 2 versions. The original version sold 45,703 units, securing second place, while the updated Switch 2 edition came in at sixth place with 10,877 units sold. The newer edition offered improvements such as higher resolution, better frame rates, and additional content, which appealed to fans of the series.
Nintendo also re-released two of its most popular Zelda games for the Switch 2. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition sold 7,992 units, while Breath of the Wild – Switch 2 Edition followed closely behind with 7,529 units.
Other strong performers included Yakuza 0: Place of the Oath – Director’s Cut, which sold 7,486 units, and Natsume’s Book of Friends: Hazuki no Ki, which debuted with 16,865 units sold. Elden Ring: Nightreign also made the list, selling over 12,000 units on the PlayStation 5.
