Nioh Series Surpasses 8 Million Copies Sold Worldwide

Team Ninja’s critically acclaimed Souls-like action RPG series Nioh has officially surpassed 8 million copies sold worldwide across both titles, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja announced on May 28, 2025.

The milestone comes just over two and a half years after the series hit 7 million shipments in October 2022, demonstrating the franchise’s enduring popularity among action RPG fans.

Nioh Series Launch Timeline

• Nioh first launched on PlayStation 4 on February 7, 2017.

• It later arrived on PC via Steam (November 7, 2017) and Epic Games Store (September 9, 2021).

• Nioh 2 debuted on PS4 on March 12, 2020, followed by PC releases on Steam (February 5, 2021) and Epic Games Store (September 9, 2021).

• The Nioh Collection, remastering both games for PlayStation 5, was released on February 5, 2021.

What Makes Nioh Special?

Set during Japan’s tumultuous Sengoku period, Nioh follows the story of William Adams, a Western samurai who battles supernatural Yokai while interacting with legendary historical figures like Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hattori Hanzō, and Date Masamune.
