Sony has officially announced the free games lineup for PlayStation Plus subscribers for August 2025, featuring three distinct titles: Lies of P, DayZ, and My Hero One’s Justice 2.
These games will be available from August 5 to September 1, giving members of all PS Plus subscription tiers access to a solid mix of Soulslike action, hardcore survival, and anime-style fighting.
If you haven’t redeemed the July offerings — Diablo IV, The King of Fighters XV, and Jusant — you still have time until August 4 to grab them.
Let’s break down what’s coming next month.
PlayStation Plus August 2025 Games
Lies of P (PS5/PS4)
Genre: Action RPG, Soulslike
Easily the star of this month’s lineup, Lies of P brings a twisted reimagining of the Pinocchio tale to a haunting Belle Époque-style city called Krat. You play as a puppet searching for Mr. Geppetto in a world overrun by deadly automatons and unrelenting madness.
Released in 2023, the game quickly made a name for itself with its tight, punishing combat and stunning world design. While it drew clear inspiration from FromSoftware’s Soulsborne titles, many fans and critics have praised it for standing on its own. One of the standout features is its customizable weapons — for example, players can mix the moveset of a rapier with the brute force of a greatsword. It also features "Legion Arms" for special abilities to Pinocchio’s mechanical arm and a "Lie System" that impacts the story, offering multiple endings.
Lies of P had previously been available on Xbox Game Pass (as a Day One launch) but was removed earlier in March 2025. Its PS Plus debut is perfect for players who missed it the first time around.
As noted by community discussions on X and Reddit, many users consider it one of the most polished Soulslike experiences outside of the Elden Ring sphere — and thanks to a recent DLC and new difficulty settings, it's more approachable than ever.
Lies of P has sold over 3 million copies so far.
DayZ (PS4)
Genre: Multiplayer Survival
For those who prefer their gaming experiences to be brutally difficult and unpredictable, DayZ adds a gritty post-apocalyptic touch to the August lineup. Originally launched in 2013, this survival game remains a cult favorite among dedicated players, though its unforgiving nature means it’s not for everyone.
Set in the massive, open-world maps of Chernarus and Livonia, players must scavenge for food, water, weapons, and medical supplies while dealing with both infected enemies and hostile human players. There's no hand-holding here — death means losing everything and starting from scratch. Servers support up to 60 players, creating unpredictable and often tense encounters.
Although DayZ is beginning to show its age in terms of visuals and interface, its hardcore survival mechanics still offer a compelling experience for players who enjoy a slower-paced, risk-heavy challenge. PS Plus availability could breathe new life into its servers, especially with returning players curious to see how it holds up.
My Hero One’s Justice 2 (PS4)
Genre: 3D Arena Fighter
Rounding out the list is My Hero One’s Justice 2, a vibrant and fast-paced fighter based on the hugely popular My Hero Academia anime and manga series. This sequel covers major story arcs from the anime — from the Provisional Hero License Exam to the Shie Hassaikai conflict — letting players step into the shoes of heroes and villains alike.
The game features an expanded roster from the original, including favorites like Midoriya and Overhaul, and introduces mechanics like Team Plus Ultras and a stamina-driven dash system. With destructible environments, wall-running, and tag-team sidekicks, battles stay dynamic and chaotic.
For fans of the series, it’s a fun way to relive key moments with plenty of customization options and unlockables — including unique outfits like Midoriya’s Checkered Uniform. The English dub was added in a later patch, making it more accessible to Western audiences.
That said, the game is more of a niche pick. While anime fans will likely appreciate its flair and character variety, it may not grab the attention of those unfamiliar with the source material.
Bonus Content: 15th Anniversary Avatars
In addition to the game lineup, Sony is also celebrating PlayStation Plus's 15th anniversary by giving away a special set of commemorative avatars. These include characters and designs from Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, and Twisted Metal — a neat little bonus for longtime subscribers who enjoy customizing their PSN profiles.
Just remember to redeem your July games before August 4 and make room in your library for this eclectic mix when the new titles drop on August 5.
