Rematch, Sloclap’s fast-paced and tactical football-action hybrid, has officially crossed 3 million players on Xbox alone.

Creative Director Pierre Tarno shared this figure in an interview with Xbox Wire. “We were honestly blown away by the response. Seeing over 3 million players jump into Rematch within a week from launch was both exciting and humbling.”

Tarno also emphasized the role of Game Pass in building momentum from day one, calling Rematch a “social experience” meant to be enjoyed with friends — and made more accessible thanks to the subscription model.

But now that the game has a solid foundation, the studio’s attention is squarely on what comes next — and the biggest priority is uniting the player base. “Cross-play across all platforms is the absolute priority,” said Tarno, noting that millions of players are currently split across Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC. “We know how much it matters, and we’ll share a timeline soon.”

In the meantime, Sloclap is continuing to push out hotfixes and updates to improve game stability, fix bugs, and address gameplay quirks. According to Tarno, the team is currently focused on eliminating desyncs, frame drops, and network replication issues — aiming to make the experience more consistent before layering on new features.

That doesn’t mean new content is far off. The game is currently labeled as Season 0, which Sloclap says is an intentional way to signal that Rematch is still in its earliest stage. “We already have a lot of ideas for new modes, features, cosmetics, and gameplay updates,” said Tarno. “The goal is for Rematch to evolve over time, shaped both by our own vision and by player feedback.”

Upcoming features will include quality-of-life tools like squad spectating and rejoining, competitive additions like leaderboards and club creation, and casual options such as quick-play, AI matches and rotating experimental modes.

Some of these temporary modes could become permanent, depending on how players respond. “We’re looking at different types of game modes — some more ‘arcade’, some more ‘realistic’ — and we’ve already started testing a few ideas,” Tarno confirmed.

“We love football, we love third-person action games, and we wanted to bring something fresh to both worlds,” Tarno summed up. “As an independent studio, we had the freedom to take that creative risk — and we’re really glad we did.”

As Rematch continues to build its player base and community momentum, all eyes are on what Season 1 and beyond might bring.
