Story

Players take on the role of R.E.A.C.H., which stands for Research Engine for Altering and Composing Humans. R.E.A.C.H. is an AI that has been unwillingly placed inside a human body. The story unfolds in an alternate version of 1980s America, one that has been scarred by nuclear catastrophe.

The setting is Phoenix-City, a stronghold run by the Phoenix Corporation, the very organization responsible for R.E.A.C.H.'s creation. As the narrative progresses, players uncover layers of corporate corruption, human trafficking, and deeply unsettling secrets. At its core, the story grapples with questions of identity, survival, and what it means to be human in a world that has long stopped caring.

Dialogue, side quests, and a fully explorable hub area with meaningful character interactions all contribute to the narrative experience.

Gameplay

Replaced is a cinematic side-scrolling action-platformer with a strong emphasis on fluid movement and responsive combat. Players can run, climb, and explore layered environments that feature both foreground and background movement. Environmental puzzles are woven into the experience, and the combat system allows players to chain together melee strikes, ranged attacks, dodges, parries, and special finishers.

The game draws obvious comparisons to some well-regarded titles. It blends Prince of Persia-style platforming and combat with the narrative depth of something like Deus Ex, while the visual aesthetic sits closer to Ori or Gris, albeit considerably darker in tone.
