Resident Evil 9 is currently in development at CAPCOM with plans for a 2025 reveal and subsequent 2026 launch.
This horror game was officially announced last year, but no gameplay or additional details have been disclosed thus far. However, that's about to change soon.
According to trusted insider Dusk Golem, who has a good track record with CAPCOM news, Resident Evil 9 will likely be revealed sometime in 2025. "It's almost 100% for sure being revealed this year and releasing next year," Dusk Golem shared on social media platform X. "The question comes if its being revealed this summer or at TGA for example this year, & if its releasing this fiscal year (ending March 31st, 2026) or next fiscal year late 2026.".
CAPCOM's recent financial reports suggest the game won't launch before April 2026. The company predicts only 8 million sales from new games for their financial year ending March 31, 2026 - their lowest prediction in five years. This number seems too small if they were planning to include a major title like Resident Evil 9 in that timeframe.
Looking at CAPCOM's history, most Resident Evil games come out between January and March. However, with GTA 6 scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, CAPCOM would likely avoid launching anywhere near that date since GTA 6 will dominate sales and attention for months afterward.
Dusk Golem has also suggested that Resident Evil 9 will be an open-world game, similar to Monster Hunter Wilds which CAPCOM released in February. The insider was correct about Monster Hunter Wilds being open-world, lending credibility to this claim about Resident Evil 9.
So far, CAPCOM themselves have only said that Resident Evil 9 "feels substantial," without providing any specific details. While gamers might learn more about the project soon through reveals and trailers, they'll likely need to wait until 2026 or possibly even later before actually playing it.
