Roblox is investing in artificial intelligence and new monetization tools to support its massive community of creators. The announcements were made during the Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) last week, where the company also introduced its new TikTok-inspired Moments feed for short-form game clips.
A Bigger Payout for Creators
One of the standout updates is the change to the Developer Exchange (DevEx) rate, which determines how Robux converts into real-world cash. The rate has increased by 8.5%, meaning 100,000 Robux now equals $380 instead of $350.
Considering that Roblox creators earned over $1 billion in the past year alone, this change makes the platform an even more appealing space for indie teams and solo developers trying to turn their projects into sustainable businesses.
Roblox also revealed new IP licensing partnerships with Mattel, Kodansha, and Lionsgate, allowing creators to legally use brands like Matchbox, Polly Pocket, and Blair Witch inside the platform. In July, Roblox introduced this new licensing platform, including the License Manager and Licenses catalog, allowing creators to develop experiences featuring popular intellectual properties from various brands. That means you’ll probably start seeing even more recognizable names and worlds built into Roblox experiences
AI at the Core of Roblox’s Future
Roblox’s push into AI is just as ambitious. The company said it currently has 400 AI models in production, many of which are designed to lower the barrier to game development. Smaller teams, often fewer than 10 people, according to Roblox, already produce the majority of the platform’s top games, and AI tools could make that process even faster.
The most eye-catching of these tools is 4D Objects, which lets creators generate fully interactive, scripted assets from a simple text prompt. Imagine typing out “custom sports car” and instantly having a drivable, customizable vehicle in your game; that’s the kind of workflow Roblox is aiming for.
Other AI features include text-to-speech and speech-to-text APIs for adding dialogue to NPCs, plus real-time voice translation across English, Spanish, French, and German.
Moments: Roblox’s Take on Short-Form Video
Another big announcement was Roblox Moments, a TikTok-style short-form video feed designed to showcase gameplay highlights. Players will be able to capture, edit, and share clips directly from games, with viewers able to tap a video and instantly jump into the same experience.
This isn’t coming out of nowhere. According to Roblox, users have already generated over 1 trillion video views on YouTube through Roblox-related content. Keeping that engagement on-platform is the goal, and it mirrors how Twitch recently launched its own Discovery Feed. For now, Moments will roll out in beta to select regions (excluding the UK and Australia).
Safety Remains a Priority
Alongside its creative and monetization updates, Roblox continues to address ongoing safety concerns. The company stated that they are consistently enhancing their moderation systems and policies, having implemented over 100 safety initiatives since January 2025, and working with industry partners to ensure safe interactions on the platform.
They are also expanding their age estimation requirement to include "all users" using communication features by the end of the year. This decision comes after years of criticism that Roblox wasn't doing enough to safeguard children on its platform.
