Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally launched, ending years of speculation and anticipation. The sequel to Team Cherry’s acclaimed indie hit arrived on September 4, 2025, but its debut was so highly anticipated that it briefly brought multiple digital storefronts to their knees.
With no pre‑orders available, thousands of fans rushed to buy the game the moment it went live. According to player reports, this simultaneous surge caused Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo’s eShop to experience crashes or severe slowdowns.
Steam was hit hardest, temporarily preventing purchases of any game and displaying error messages to eager buyers. Xbox and PlayStation listings appeared for some users but failed to process transactions, while others couldn’t load the store pages at all. Nintendo Switch owners faced similar issues, with the eShop page for Silksong refusing to load.
The situation was especially frustrating for PS5 players, who found themselves unable to purchase or download the game even after other platforms recovered. Neither PlayStation nor Team Cherry initially explained the delay, though the most likely cause was a combination of store errors and overwhelming traffic.
UPDATE: As of the latest check, the PlayStation Store issue has been resolved, and Silksong is now available to buy and download on PS5.
Despite the rocky start, the launch underscores just how massive the demand for Silksong is. With its modest file size — just a few gigabytes depending on platform — and a $19.99 price tag, it’s clear that once players can get their hands on it, nothing short of a server crash will slow them down. The “age of Silksong” has begun — and now, everyone can finally join in.
