Team17 has released a backwards compatibility update for Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, bringing a nostalgic collection of classic Worms titles to modern platforms.

As part of what Team17 calls the “Backworms Compatible Update,” this new edition bundles three classic games:

  • Worms (SNES)

  • Worms (SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive)

  • Worms World Party (Game Boy Advance)

These additions let players dive into 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit versions of the series on modern consoles, including Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

The update also includes the long-requested "Boggy B" cheat code, which unlocks all content and can be toggled right from the Options menu.

This update expands the game’s retro content, turning it into a more complete package for fans of the series. Just to be clear, the term "backward compatibility" here means that these older Worms titles are now included inside the Anniversary Edition—not that the game itself plays on old hardware.

In fact, the Anniversary Edition is made for current-gen systems and doesn’t support older consoles like the original PlayStation or Xbox.

If you're wondering about compatibility with the Nintendo Switch 2, there's no mention of it in the press release. However, some fans are hopeful about possible future support.

Beyond backward compatibility, the Anniversary Edition also brings some extra features:

  • New display options designed for modern hardware.

  • An interactive documentary about Worms Armageddon, plus a timeline museum covering the history of the series.

  • A fully playable version of the Game Boy Color title.

  • Over 55 classic weapons and tools, including Earthquake, Freeze, and the unforgettable French Sheep Strike.

  • Single-player Deathmatch mode, along with a 40+ mission campaign.

  • Over 30 unique sound banks, from "Stiff Upper Lip" to "Cyberworms" and more.

  • Popular multiplayer features like Handicapping, Allied Teams, Worms Disease, Home Runs, and many others.

While it doesn’t drastically reimagine the original, the Anniversary Edition focuses on bringing all the best classic elements together in one polished package for today’s consoles.
