Twitch is working "hand-in-hand" with Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two to prepare for the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.
This insight comes from Twitch’s Chief Monetization Officer Mike Minton in a detailed interview with MeinMMO, illustrating GTA 6 as “the biggest game of our lives.”
Minton, who oversees everything from subscriptions to Twitch Bits and advertiser relations, shared how the platform is aligning itself closely with Rockstar to ensure GTA 6’s release is a major success across all fronts — particularly on Twitch.
“We will work with Take-Two and so on to make it as big as possible for them and activate it on Twitch as they want for the launch of their game,” Minton explained.
He emphasized that the relationship isn’t a surface-level partnership. Twitch has teams working directly with both the publisher and Rockstar’s development side to offer guidance based on years of experience with large-scale launches. These discussions include potential Twitch-specific features like in-game drops, activations, and possibly even official roleplay servers.
At launch, the focus will be on the single-player campaign, but Minton hinted at broader plans. “It will be a wave that builds over time,” he said. “First, the focus will be on the single-player campaign... Then there will probably be a cycle around the online multiplayer, which will be an even more important segment... That’s where the magic begins to happen.”
Minton acknowledged Twitch’s unique role in the gaming ecosystem, especially when it comes to community-driven content. He cited GTA 5 as a prime example, saying, “That became extremely popular and revitalized GTA, based on the work that the creators have done.” He highlighted how roleplay servers built around GTA 5 sparked a resurgence in interest and played a huge role in extending the game’s relevance far beyond its original release window.
Speaking about the future, Minton shared hopes for the same kind of community-driven success with GTA 6. “Hopefully, as you say, roleplaying will be available, whether through the necessary mod support or direct support from the developers if they choose to go that route,” he told MeinMMO.
The streaming platform also recognizes the need to balance creative freedom with platform safety. While roleplay content can push boundaries, Minton emphasized that Twitch remains committed to “informing, educating, and assisting creators,” ensuring community guidelines are clearly understood and enforced fairly. “We review these cases carefully and, of course, also reverse decisions. If it was a mistake, they express remorse, etc. Those are all important parts of this appeals process,” he added.
When asked about Twitch’s broader mission in these types of partnerships, Minton was clear: “Our role is to actively foster these relationships between developers and streamers.” He added that Twitch is “more of a mediator”, helping both sides succeed through tools, visibility, and monetization systems.
Looking ahead, Twitch sees GTA 6 as a long-term engagement. Minton believes it won’t just be a flash-in-the-pan moment but a sustained content goldmine similar to what GTA 5 became. “I hope for a long-lasting success for both them and us that fosters streamer and audience engagement for many, many years, just like with GTA 5.”
While no specific Twitch-exclusive features have been confirmed yet, the ongoing discussions suggest fans can expect an even deeper integration between the platform and Rockstar's world — and yes, that might just include official Twitch roleplay servers.
Grand Theft Auto VI is officially set to launch on May 26, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. No PC release date has been confirmed. Based on Rockstar’s past pattern of console-first launches with PC ports arriving 1–2 years later.
