Insomniac Games’ long-rumored Venom spin-off is still alive, according to new reports, despite years of uncertainty following the studio’s 2023 data breach. Alongside this, Wolverine remains firmly on track for its previously leaked 2026 release window.
In December 2023, Insomniac Games faced major cybersecurity breaches. The hack exposed sensitive employee information and revealed an internal roadmap of upcoming projects. Among the leaks were early builds of Wolverine, a new Ratchet & Clank entry, and a Spider-Man spin-off centered on Venom.
While Insomniac quickly confirmed Wolverine would continue development as planned, silence around Venom left many wondering whether the project had been shelved. That uncertainty only grew when the studio scrapped its planned Spider-Man 2 DLC, which would have featured Carnage, Beetle, and a tie-in with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Wolverine on Track, Venom Still in Development
According to a recent report from MP1st, sources close to Insomniac confirmed that Wolverine is still scheduled for 2026, aligning with Sony’s business presentation earlier this year that placed its launch no earlier than April 2026.
The same report also notes that Venom remains in "active development," though its progress is less clear. If Wolverine is the studio’s "priority," Venom may still be in "pre-production," which would explain the lack of updates during recent PlayStation showcases.
Eddie Brock as Venom’s Host
Another major reveal from the report is that Eddie Brock will serve as Venom’s host. For fans of the comics, this choice makes sense, especially given Spider-Man 2’s ending and Brock’s central role in the symbiote’s history.
Visually, Brock’s design will lean closer to his "comic book appearance" rather than Tom Hardy’s portrayal in Sony’s Venom films. Players can also expect him to clash with Carnage (Cletus Kasady), something teased directly in Spider-Man 2, as well as a "monstrous" version of Anti-Venom that differs from Peter Parker’s incarnation in the comics.
Voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, who plays Peter Parker, recently teased that Insomniac was “cooking” something Carnage-related, further fueling speculation that the symbiote saga is a priority for the studio.
Multiverse Hints and Spider-Man 2099
The report also mentions clues pointing toward the involvement of Miguel O’Hara, better known as Spider-Man 2099. Fans may remember the subtle multiverse references in Spider-Man 2’s side missions, which many assumed were Easter eggs. However, leaked documents suggested these were meant to expand into larger storylines, possibly tied to Venom or even Spider-Man 3.
When Could Venom Release?
That’s the big question. The original 2023 leak penciled Venom in for late 2025, before later shifting the timeline to 2027. If Insomniac is still prioritizing Wolverine, Venom likely won’t arrive until after its launch, making 2027 the most realistic window.
For now, fans need to wait patiently. Insomniac has yet to officially acknowledge the project, but with Wolverine confirmed for 2026, Venom may finally get its reveal soon after.
