Xbox has officially unveiled its ambitious lineup for Gamescom 2025, confirming that attendees in Cologne from August 20 to 24 will be treated to playable demos of several major titles—including the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong.
But perhaps even more buzzworthy is the debut of Xbox's new handheld consoles, the ROG Ally and ROG Ally X, which will be available to the public for hands-on testing for the very first time.
After being teased back in June during the Xbox Games Showcase, the ROG Ally devices were only given a vague “Holiday 2025” release window. Until now, pricing and launch details had remained unconfirmed—at least officially.
Pre-Orders Set for August 20, According to Insider
Reliable leaker billbil-kun, known for accurately revealing hardware launches in the past, has now confirmed the pre-order date for both Xbox Ally models: Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
That timing aligns perfectly with Xbox’s opening day presence at Gamescom, which includes a live show at 3 PM (French time) featuring a dedicated segment on the new handhelds. All signs point to that moment being used to officially unveil pre-orders, pricing, and perhaps even launch dates.
Earlier leaks already gave us a glimpse into potential pricing, thanks to insider eXtas1s and an accidental listing from an authorized ASUS dealer in Spain. Those reports claimed:
Xbox ROG Ally – €599
Xbox ROG Ally X – €899
Now, billbil-kun has added further credibility by corroborating the same pricing, which looks increasingly likely to be accurate. However, Microsoft has not yet revealed prices in USD, GBP, or other regions. Those details are expected to be announced during or just after the Gamescom live stream.
First Public Hands-On with Xbox Ally Devices
For fans attending Gamescom 2025, this will be the first opportunity to go hands-on with both versions of the ROG Xbox Ally. These handheld devices, developed by ASUS in partnership with Xbox, are designed to compete with other high-end portables like the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch 2.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s inside each model:
ROG Ally (Standard Model):
16GB RAM
512GB M.2 SSD
7-inch Full HD (1080p) display
60Wh battery
Optimized Windows 11 with Xbox UI
ROG Ally X (High-End Model):
AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chipset
24GB RAM
1TB M.2 SSD
Adaptive triggers
80Wh battery
Same Windows 11 optimizations with Xbox-focused features
Both devices will offer a new Xbox interface tailored for portable use, bringing together Xbox Game Pass, Battle.net, Steam, and other digital PC storefronts in one accessible hub.
We’ll continue tracking updates and will share US and UK pricing as soon as they’re officially revealed.
