Skate Story (PS5)
Developed solo by indie creator Sam Eng and published by Devolver Digital, Skate Story blends artistry, melancholy, and rhythm into a one-of-a-kind skateboarding adventure. You play as a fragile demon made of glass, skating through the underworld while performing tricks and battling demons.
Rather than chasing scores, the game focuses on smooth flow, storytelling, and momentum as you ollie, grind, and kickflip through hauntingly beautiful environments. It currently holds an 80 Metacritic score, praised for its incredible soundtrack, unique aesthetic, and fluid controls. Some critics found pacing issues toward the end, but most agree it’s one of the year’s standout indies, backed by a 89% “Very Positive” rating on Steam.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink (PS5, PS4)
Developed and published by Cygames, Granblue Fantasy: Relink takes the universe of the hit mobile RPG and transforms it into a fully-fledged action JRPG experience. The game features 18 playable characters, each with distinct abilities and combat styles, set across stunning sky realms filled with massive bosses, hidden treasures, and co-op missions.
Earning an 80 Metacritic score from critics, it’s widely praised for its fast-paced combat, visuals, and character variety. The only major critique? A somewhat repetitive endgame grind. Still, with over two million copies shipped and a “Very Positive” player reception, Relink remains one of 2024’s most beloved JRPGs.
Planet Coaster 2 (PS5)
If you’ve ever dreamed of running your own amusement empire, Planet Coaster 2 from Frontier Developments is your next obsession. The sequel expands the classic theme park simulator with water park creation, complete with pools, slides, and flumes.
Players can now dive into cross-platform co-op, improved building systems, and robust management mechanics across sandbox, career, and challenge modes. Critics gave it a 76 Metacritic score, praising its creativity and new systems, though console controls still feel clunky for some players. Fans of management sims, however, are loving it — and the “Mostly Positive” Steam reviews from over 11k users prove it’s worth the plunge.
Cat Quest III (PS5, PS4)
From The Gentlebros and Kepler Interactive, Cat Quest III takes you on a lighthearted pirate adventure through the Purribean Seas. The game’s mix of swashbuckling combat, ship exploration, and charming dialogue makes it a purrfect (sorry, had to) family-friendly action RPG.
Players can explore solo or in local co-op, tackling quests, upgrading ships, and facing off against fearsome Pi-rats in 2.5D combat. With an 80 Metacritic score and glowing “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, it continues the series’ tradition of delivering accessible, witty, and delightfully polished adventures.
Lego Horizon Adventures (PS5)
Lego Horizon Adventures, co-developed by Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo, transforms Aloy’s post-apocalyptic world into a lighthearted, brick-built playground. This family-friendly reimagining focuses on co-op action, simple puzzles, and a colorful retelling of Horizon Zero Dawn’s story.
While critics gave it a 70 Metacritic score, calling it “fun but shallow,” it’s still a strong pick for families and younger players. The Lego humor, charming visuals, and casual co-op make it an ideal holiday couch game, even if it lacks the depth of the mainline series.
Paw Patrol: Grand Prix (PS5, PS4)
Developed by 3D Clouds and published by Outright Games, Paw Patrol: Grand Prix brings the Paw Patrol pups to the racetrack. Designed for young players, it features easy controls, power-ups, auto-acceleration options, and split-screen multiplayer for up to four players.
Paw Patrol World (PS5, PS4)
Also from 3D Clouds, Paw Patrol World opens up the series with a free-roam Adventure Bay full of collectible items, character missions, and vehicle gameplay. With split-screen co-op and approachable objectives, it’s perfect for young kids or parents looking to play alongside them.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage (PS5, PS4)
Developed by Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Mirage takes the franchise back to its stealth-driven roots. Set in 9th-century Baghdad, the game follows Basim Ibn Ishaq as he evolves from a street thief into a fully trained Hidden One. The experience leans heavily on classic Assassin’s Creed pillars: parkour across dense rooftops, precise stealth takedowns, gadget-based infiltration, and the return of tools like smoke bombs, throwing knives, and of course, the Hidden Blade. Mirage’s compact open world keeps the experience tight and focused, avoiding the bloat of the more RPG-heavy entries.
The game also includes the Valley of Memory update, adding about six hours of new story content and expanding exploration into the AlUla region.
According to Metacritic, Mirage holds a 76 score from 96 critics on PS5, while user feedback sits at a 7.0 rating from around 2,500 players. Reception highlights praise its atmospheric recreation of Baghdad, commitment to stealth, and its more focused design. Critics did, however, call out its bland combat, linear mission structure, and predictable storytelling. Even so, the game managed to reach 10 million players by late 2025, proving that many fans still appreciate the classic Assassin’s Creed formula when it’s executed with restraint and intention.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (PS5, PS4)
Developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty brings a fast, brutal soulslike experience set in a dark fantasy version of Three Kingdoms-era China. Rather than leaning into heavy weapons or slow-paced duels, the game emphasizes deflection-driven melee combat, where perfectly timed parries crack enemy stances and open them up for devastating finishers. The system is fast, twitchy, and unforgiving — very much Team Ninja’s specialty.
On PS5, Metacritic lists Wo Long at a score of 80 from 74 critics, with users giving it a 6.7 rating across nearly 600 reviews. Critics praised its visceral combat, fluid deflection mechanics, and streamlined systems that made it more approachable than Nioh while still retaining depth. However, some felt the game struggled with repetitive bosses, uneven difficulty spikes, and a weak narrative.
Soulcalibur III (PS5, PS4 – Premium)
Premium members can relive one of the best 3D fighters of the 2000s with Soulcalibur III. Developed by Namco’s Project Soul, this legendary weapons-based fighting game features fast, fluid combat, rich visuals, and an impressive roster of warriors.
The PS5 and PS4 versions add rewind, save states, and visual upgrades, making it easier to revisit or master classic fights. With an 86 Metacritic score, it’s still considered one of the strongest entries in the franchise — a perfect nostalgia trip for fighting game fans.
NOTE: The free monthly games added to PlayStation Plus in December included LEGO Horizon Adventures, Killing Floor 3, and more.
