GTA: San Andreas Set to Leave Netflix Games in December

One of the most iconic entries in the Grand Theft Auto series, San Andreas, will soon be leaving Netflix Games. The removal is scheduled for December 12, 2025, marking the end of its two-year run as part of Netflix’s gaming library.

Netflix first secured access to the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition back in December 2023. While GTA III and Vice City were removed after just a year, San Andreas stuck around longer thanks to its popularity. According to Appmagic estimates, the game has been Netflix’s most-downloaded title, with over 57 million installs to date. On Android alone, it crossed 10 million downloads, making it not just a nostalgic favorite but also a major driver of Netflix’s gaming engagement.

Originally released in 2004, San Andreas remains one of Rockstar’s most beloved open-world sandboxes. The Definitive Edition on Netflix brought HD textures, improved controls, and quality-of-life updates, allowing both longtime fans and new players to experience CJ’s story in a modern format. Updates continued during its time on the platform, with the last patch arriving in March 2024.

The departure of San Andreas is part of a wider catalogue change. Alongside it, Civilization VI, Kentucky Route Zero, Twelve Minutes, and several other titles will also be removed in December. Earlier this year, Netflix had already purged 22 games, including Hades, Braid, and the Monument Valley series.

Of course, Netflix isn’t just cutting back—it’s also adding new content. Starting December 2, 2025, Red Dead Redemption will join the service with a full mobile port. Other additions include WWE 2K, Netflix Puzzled, and a variety of party and kids’ games playable across devices and TVs.

Netflix Games president Alain Tascan has emphasized that the company is focusing on four main categories going forward: party, kids, narrative, and mainstream titles. He even teased ambitions to build a Fortnite-like social gaming experience, signaling that Netflix is in gaming for the long haul.

For players, the biggest frustration with Netflix Games removals is that once a title leaves, it becomes unplayable. Unlike Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus, you can’t purchase the game separately and keep your save data. Once San Andreas is gone, your only option will be to uninstall it. The good news is that the game remains available on mobile storefronts for around £18.99, though Netflix saves won’t transfer over.
