Roblox Investigates Reports of Anti-Muslim Content in Brainrot Following CAIR Complaint

Roblox, one of the world’s most popular online gaming platforms, has confirmed it is investigating reports of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian content after receiving a letter from the Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

The civil rights group, which is the largest Muslim advocacy organization in the U.S., raised concerns that children were being exposed to hateful material tied to the viral “Italian Brainrot” trend.

The Italian Brainrot Controversy

The “Italian Brainrot” meme wave, which began as absurd AI-generated characters with pseudo-Italian narration, has spread across TikTok, classrooms, and now Roblox.

While some of the content is bizarre and seemingly harmless, verified translations show that certain chants include explicitly anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian rhetoric. Examples cited by CAIR include phrases like “porco Dio e porco Allah” (translated as “God is a pig” and “Allah is a pig”) and lyrics glorifying the bombing of Palestinian children.

According to CAIR Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry, this type of content is particularly dangerous because children may repeat it without understanding its meaning. “When gaming content normalizes bigotry or mocks faiths, it creates real-world harm,” she said.

She notes that Maryland teachers have already observed students repeating these chants in classrooms, sparking concerns about how rapidly online trends can influence real-world environments.

Roblox’s Response

In its reply to CAIR’s letter, Roblox highlighted that community safety is a "top priority." The company said:

“Inappropriate content or behavior that violates our Terms of Use is not acceptable. This expedited report will be investigated by our team who will take swift and appropriate action.”

“We welcome dialogue with advocacy organizations like CAIR and other community groups to ensure our platform remains safe, inclusive, and welcoming for all users,” the Roblox spokesperson told RNS.

CAIR’s Demands and Guidance

CAIR has urged Roblox to take several concrete steps, including:

• Removing all “Italian Brainrot” audio, chat, games, and assets containing hateful or blasphemous content.

• Strengthening moderation filters, especially for religious slurs and non-English content.

• Issuing a public statement denouncing hate speech and affirming inclusivity.

• Providing transparency on moderation actions and safeguards.

• Engaging directly with community organizations to understand the impact of anti-religious content on children.

The group also encouraged parents to use Roblox’s parental controls, account restrictions, and privacy tools to better protect their children.

This controversy comes as Roblox faces multiple lawsuits nationwide over inappropriate content. A recent complaint from Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman alleged that “sexually explicit and dangerous experiences pervade Roblox” and that its protections are inadequate.
