Ubisoft has released its financial results for the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year, reporting a dip in earnings and some operational challenges, despite a few standout performances in its game lineup.

For the quarter ending June 30, 2025, the French gaming giant posted net bookings of €281.6 million (approximately $331 million), down 2.9% year-over-year and below its internal target of around €310 million.

Total revenue stood at €310.8 million ($365 million), a 3.9% drop from the same period last year.

However, one area of positive momentum came from its back catalog, which saw a 4.4% rise in net bookings to €260.4 million ($306 million).

Ubisoft attributed the underperformance to a few key issues — notably a weaker-than-expected showing from Rainbow Six Siege, unfavorable foreign exchange rates, and a planned partnership deal that has been delayed to the second quarter.

Despite the financial dip, Ubisoft CEO and co-founder Yves Guillemot highlighted several bright spots. “The first quarter delivered mixed results,” he acknowledged. “But Assassin’s Creed Shadows met expectations with over 5 million unique players since launch, and Rainbow Six Siege X received very positive feedback due to renewed gameplay mechanics and enhanced features.”

However, Rainbow Six Siege also suffered a technical hiccup involving a pricing exploit. According to Ubisoft, players had been using prepaid currency cards that temporarily inflated their in-game wallets, significantly disrupting player spending. The issue has reportedly been resolved, and in spite of the disruption, Ubisoft reported that Rainbow Six Siege X saw its third-highest monthly active users ever — just behind the pandemic-driven highs of 2020.

Meanwhile, The Division 2 had a strong showing thanks to the Year 7 Battle for Brooklyn DLC, and its inclusion in the Game Pass, helping to offset some of the financial shortfall.

As for Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft didn’t share new sales data but reiterated the game's Switch 2 launch on September 4 and noted that its second DLC, A Pirate’s Fortune, launched in May, received a positive response.

Beyond the numbers, Ubisoft is also undergoing a significant internal transformation. As part of its long-term strategy, the company is reorganizing into genre-specific business units known as “Creative Houses.” These units aim to enhance autonomy, creative focus, and accountability, while better aligning game development with player interests.

The first of these Creative Houses — a new subsidiary unveiled earlier this year — will oversee Ubisoft’s flagship franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. This unit will be co-led by Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot and is being established in partnership with Chinese tech giant Tencent, a deal Ubisoft says is progressing well and is expected to be finalized by the end of 2025.

According to the company, each Creative House will be managed based on the expertise required for its genre, with leadership possibly coming from either creative or technical backgrounds. Guillemot described the move as a way to boost agility and ensure long-term creative vision.

Looking ahead, Ubisoft remains confident in its full-year outlook and is forecasting Q2 net bookings of approximately €450 million.

The company has a packed release schedule for Q2 (July 1 to September 30, 2025), with upcoming titles/DLC/updates including:

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji Expansion

  • The Crew Motorfest: Season 7

  • For Honor: Year 9 Season 3

  • Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era

  • The Rogue Prince of Persia (PC)

  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege: Year 10 Season 3 - July 10

  • Tom Clancy’s The Division 2: Year 7 Season 2

Beyond that, Anno 117: Pax Romana, the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time remake, and new mobile games Rainbow Six MobileThe Division Resurgence, and "a couple of titles" are also lining up for the rest of the financial year
