Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC ‘Claws of Awaji’ Targeting September 2025 Launch

Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC ‘Claws of Awaji’

Ubisoft is preparing to expand Assassin’s Creed Shadows with its first major DLC, Claws of Awaji, which is currently slated for release in September 2025.

According to Insider Gaming, the DLC release schedule has not been affected by Ubisoft's recent delays to other major titles. However, the launch date could shift to October 2025 depending on the company's overall release strategy for upcoming games and expansions.

What Is Claws of Awaji?

Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, the Claws of Awaji expansion will add 10+ hours of content to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and is expected to include:

  • New Region fully open-world area separate from the base game’s map

  • A new weapon type (Bō, a traditional Japanese staff)

  • Additional skills, gear, and abilities

  • An all-new narrative set within feudal Japan

  • New Faction and Enemies like The Sanzoku Ippa

Unlike some previous Assassin’s Creed DLCs, Claws of Awaji is designed to tie closely to the main story, resolving open threads like the Imperial Regalia and Naoe’s family history.

The DLC is also a part of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Year 1 roadmap, which includes free updates like new parkour moves, difficulty options, New Game+, and smaller episodic content drops (e.g., “The Works of Luis Frois”). Unlike previous titles, there’s no Season Pass; Claws of Awaji and store items are the only paid content confirmed so far.

Co-op Mode 'LEAGUE' Still in Development

Alongside the DLC, the report also suggests that Ubisoft is working on a new co-op experience, currently codenamed ‘LEAGUE’, planned for release sometime in 2026.

Early speculation suggested the mode would feature the game’s dual protagonists—Naoe and Yasuke—teaming up. However, sources now indicate the co-op mode will introduce a broader cast of playable characters, tied into a deeper narrative expansion beyond just the main storyline.

What Else Is in the Works?

Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed roadmap continues to grow, with multiple projects in active development:

  • Assassin’s Creed Invictus – An 18-player multiplayer title, currently in progress

  • Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake – Codenamed Obsidian, this long-rumored remake is still moving forward, though its release timeline remains unconfirmed

Both titles are reportedly “progressing well,” but internal rollout and final release dates will depend on Ubisoft’s evolving publishing strategy, which has yet to be communicated to teams company-wide.
