A line in the ESRB rating summary for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has sparked speculation among fans that cosmetics from Black Ops 6 may carry over to the new title.

According to the ESRB description, some weapons in Black Ops 7 will include “marijuana/joints/paraphernalia,” with characters performing animations like “inhaling marijuana from a bong-like structure attached to a rifle” and “smoking joints or inhaling through bongs” during execution sequences.

That’s raised eyebrows — not just for the edgy content — but because these elements sound very familiar. As pointed out by CharlieIntel and several users on social media, the description seems to directly reference the “Dank Days” Tracer Pack from Black Ops 6, which included cannabis-themed skins, weapon charms, and finishing moves.

Fans quickly linked the mention to the possibility of a carry-forward system, where paid cosmetics purchased in Black Ops 6 might be accessible in Black Ops 7. “Great, so carry forward is happening then because they are describing the Lizard Weed bong bundle from BO6,” wrote one user on X.

While some players welcomed the idea of retaining their premium bundles in the upcoming title, others weren’t exactly thrilled. Critics argue that it’s another sign the series is leaning more into novelty microtransactions than its serious military roots. “So all the stupid stuff is being carried over for no reason,” one commented.

Previously, carryover was largely limited to Warzone and Modern Warfare’s ecosystem, but it looks like Black Ops might be joining that trend.

Black Ops 7 is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, and was officially revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. The game picks up immediately after the events of Black Ops 6, making it the first direct sequel in the sub-series. It stars Milo Ventimiglia as returning character David Mason, alongside Kiernan Shipka and Michael Rooker, who reprises his role as Mike Harper.

Beyond the possible carry-over cosmetics, Black Ops 7 is introducing fresh multiplayer features like Skirmish mode, Overload, and a 20v20 wingsuit battle, all of which were revealed after a developer-only playtest mistakenly went live for everyone on the Call of Duty app.

The game is set to launch across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and even last-gen consoles like PS4 and Xbox One. It has been rated M (17+) for mature content. Release date currently circulating online is November 14, 2025, but the dev has yet to confirm it.
