The Epic Games Store has kicked off 2026 by bringing back its traditional weekly giveaway format with Total War: Three Kingdoms and Wildgate now available for free through January 8.
After nearly a month of daily rotating freebies during the holiday season, the platform is returning to its usual seven-day promotion structure that gamers have come to expect throughout the year.
Wildgate represents one of the fresher offerings in this giveaway cycle. The sci-fi PvPvE shooter launched in July 2025 as the debut project from Moonshot Games, a studio based in Irvine, California. The first-person shooter emphasizes cooperative gameplay across three distinct modes, blending extraction mechanics with spacecraft combat and challenging late-game zones like the Reach.

What sets Wildgate apart is its focus on player choice, giving you the freedom to decide whether you want to approach situations aggressively or take a stealthier route. The game has been well-received so far, holding a 76 average rating on OpenCritic and earning "Very Positive" reviews from the Steam community as of early 2026.
Total War: Three Kingdoms brings some historical strategy to the table, drawing inspiration from the classic 14th-century Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. While the game maintains the massive real-time battles that define the Total War series, it also introduces relationship systems and hero-focused mechanics that add new layers to the traditional formula.
Creative Assembly released this entry back in 2019, and it made quite an impact at launch with an impressive 86 average score on OpenCritic, reflecting the predominantly positive reception it received.

This marks the third time a Total War game has appeared as a free offering on Epic's platform. Total War: Warhammer was available for free during a week-long period that ended in early April 2022, while A Total War Saga: Troy was claimable back in 2020.
The current giveaways signal the end of Epic's three-week mystery game streak that started with Hogwarts Legacy. Looking ahead, the store has already confirmed that Bloons TD 6 will be next up for grabs, running from January 8 through January 15.
Developed by New Zealand studio Ninja Kiwi, this tower defense title is widely regarded as one of the genre's finest examples. Interestingly, this will be the fourth time Epic Games Store users have had the chance to claim Bloons TD 6 for free.
How to Claim the Free Games
