Roblox Officially Banned in Palestine Over Child Safety Concerns

Roblox has been officially banned in Palestine. The decision was announced by the Palestinian Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, in coordination with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, on November 17, 2025.

Reasons for the Ban

According to the ministry’s statement, the ban follows months of monitoring the platform, where officials observed what they described as “immoral content” and "unsafe digital behavior." Roblox, known for its open interactions between players, was flagged as a space where children could be "exposed to harassment and inappropriate material."

This aligns with a broader wave of regional scrutiny on Roblox, where similar issues, such as unmoderated chats enabling adult-child interactions, have prompted actions in neighboring countries.

Broader Context and Regional Trends

Palestine is the latest in a series of Middle Eastern nations to restrict or ban Roblox over these safety issues:

  • Earlier 2025 Actions: Roblox preemptively suspended in-game chat features across Arabic-speaking countries (including Palestine, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and others) starting September 4, 2025, to address moderation gaps and comply with local regulations.

Full Bans in the Region:

  • Qatar (August 13, 2025)

  • Kuwait (August 21, 2025; lifted October 28, 2025)

  • Turkey (August 7, 2024, with ongoing restrictions)

  • Iraq (October 20, 2025)

  • Oman (early 2025)

  • Algeria (September 16, 2025)

  • Jordan (previously banned, now lifted but with restrictions)

Globally, Roblox faces mounting legal pressure. For instance, U.S. states like Louisiana, Texas, and Florida have sued the company for failing to prevent child exploitation, while countries like China and North Korea maintain long-standing bans.

Roblox has responded with updates like age verification for chats (rolled out November 18, 2025) and enhanced moderation, but critics argue these fall short.
