Roblox has officially broken the record for the highest concurrent player count in gaming history, reaching 47.4 million players online at once this past weekend. The milestone came during a special “Admin War” event that brought together two of the platform’s most popular titles, Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot.
The timing of this surge is quite the plot twist. Despite Roblox being in the hot seat lately with child safety concerns, vigilante ban, lawsuits, petitions, and creators' exodus, it seems neither parents nor players are hitting the eject button. Instead, millions continue to log in, proving once again just how dominant Roblox remains in the gaming industry.
The Admin War takes over Roblox
The Admin War event was sparked by developers Jandel (Grow a Garden) and SpyderSammy (Steal a Brainrot), who staged a playful online rivalry across Twitter and Discord. Whether it was genuine competition or a clever marketing stunt, the results were staggering.
Grow a Garden peaked at 22.3 million concurrent users, while
Steal a Brainrot became only the second game ever on Roblox to cross 20 million concurrent players.
Together, the two titles alone attracted more than 30 million simultaneous players, fueling the overall record-breaking moment.
This achievement surpassed Roblox’s previous high of 32.6 million players recorded in July, and it even outshone Steam’s all-time record of 41.2 million concurrent users across its platform.
Roblox officially becomes the largest platform by CCU
According to Roblox strategist James Purell, the milestone cements Roblox not only as the largest gaming platform by concurrent users, but also as the record holder for the highest CCU game in the world.
Purell noted on LinkedIn:
"While Roblox corporate deals with PR issues, developers like Jandel and Sammy are building experiences that millions of kids can't stop playing. They're the ones pushing the platform forward with innovation and community building. Yes, Roblox 100% needs to do better on safety, but these developers are creating the content that keeps 47M people engaged. They're the real engine behind the numbers - not Roblox corporate."
All eyes are now on how Roblox tackles these child safety concerns. Recently, the company rolled out a policy update specifically addressing "intimate spaces" like bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as other adult-themed settings. However, fans believe Roblox needs to take more action to bring these policies to life. With RDC 2025, the annual Roblox Developers Conference, scheduled for September 6, 2025, we might hear more discussions on these topics.
