Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 stole the spotlight at The Game Awards 2025, sweeping nine trophies, including the coveted Game of the Year.

The French RPG from Sandfall Interactive didn’t just win—it rewrote history. With nine awards in total, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 broke the previous record set by The Last of Us Part II in 2020, which had walked away with seven.
To celebrate, developer Shift Up unveiled a playful new artwork featuring Stellar Blade’s Eve dressed as a Clair Obscur expedition member, trophy in hand, congratulating Sandfall Interactive. It’s a fun crossover moment that highlights how much buzz both studios have generated in recent years.

Clair Obscur also picked up wins for Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, and Best Performance, among others.
Meanwhile, Shift Up’s Stellar Blade had its own journey. Released on PS5 in 2024, it earned two nominations at last year’s awards but didn’t secure wins. Still, the game found redemption in 2025 when its PC port launched in June, selling 1 million copies in just three days. It quickly became one of the most modded games of 2025, with fans creating everything from visual tweaks to full-blown gameplay overhauls.
The studio has confirmed a sequel is in development, though recent job postings suggest it’s still in early stages. A tentative 2027 release has been floated, but realistically, fans may have to wait longer.
