Stellar Blade is getting a sequel. Developer Shift Up has confirmed that a follow-up to the title is already in development following the massive commercial success of the original.
In a newly published report, translated by Twitter user Genki, Shift Up stated:
“We are actively pursuing the franchise development of the ‘Stellar Blade’ IP and are currently developing a sequel to ‘Stellar Blade.’ This sequel will inherit the action-packed nature of the original while incorporating an expanded universe and enhanced gameplay, further solidifying its position as a franchise IP.”
Genki later clarified that the word “worldview” used in the translation may more accurately mean “universe” or “setting.” That suggests the sequel could go beyond the cityscapes and dystopian backdrops of the first game, potentially exploring new regions or even entirely new worlds or stories.
Aiming for a Stronger Story
Director Kim Hyung-tae also seems intent on refining the narrative this time around. In an earlier interview, Kim admitted that while the combat system came together early in development, the storytelling suffered due to budget and production constraints. “I think it is true that the story is poor,” Kim candidly said. He explained that cutscenes were cut down to save costs, which weakened the overall character and world-building elements. For the sequel, the team is looking to bring more narrative depth alongside the already polished gameplay.
Sales That Speak for Themselves
Meanwhile, Shift Up has every reason to be confident. The company recently reported the strongest quarterly results in its history, largely thanks to Stellar Blade’s PC launch. According to official financial reports, the game sold over one million copies within three days on Steam, setting a record as the fastest-selling Korean title on the platform. Combined with PS5 sales, total units have surpassed three million worldwide. On Steam alone, the game hit a peak of 192,000 concurrent players and earned a glowing 98% positive review score.
In Q2 2025, Stellar Blade contributed 58% of Shift Up’s total revenue, generating 65.7 billion KRW (about $47 million). The company’s operating revenue hit 112 billion KRW, marking a 72% year-on-year increase, while operating profit surged 159% quarter-on-quarter to 68 billion KRW.
There are also rumors that Stellar Blade might be “reviewing various possibilities internally,” including a potential port for Nintendo Switch 2. While nothing is confirmed yet, such a move could open the series to an even wider audience.

The PC port is easily my game of the year. Though for me the story is really interesting. Not sure what the complaints are. I guess no reason not to do better though.
